THE DESERT DWELLERS (California/New Mexico)
-Live Global Bass set.

Bringing the electronic bass music vibe to the yoga scene, and the sounds of yoga to the electronic dance scene, Desert Dwellers’ global sounds are the bridge between worlds. Joining solid groove with sounds of serenity, their signature aesthetic feels as natural on the dance floor as it does after hours or on the mat. Due in no small part to Desert Dwellers’ pioneering spirit, the very concept of chill-out and sacred bass music has expanded dramatically. Skillfully blending deep bass, earthy percussion, etheric voices and culture-crossing instrumentation into a sonic incense for mind and body, Desert Dwellers offers a spellbinding hybrid with echoes of our tribal past and future. These two sound alchemists offer cutting edge techniques that blend the modern edge of electronica with the ancient sounds of cultures past. The result has been the prolific production of genre blending dance tracks and downtempo grooves that make for truly memorable listening experiences.

Desert Dwellers primarily consists of Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe, amongst a webwork of inspiring collaborators; together they are one of the most pioneering and prolific downtempo artists hailing from the United States, having released 6 full length albums on White Swan Records, 4 albums on the YogiTunes series, as well as countless singles, EPs and remixes for labels like Twisted, Six Degrees, Iboga, Omnis, System, Native State, and Desert Trax. After the success of the “DownTemple Dub” series on White Swan, and playing shows the past three years at some of the most prominent festivals including Lightning In A Bottle, Symbiosis, Wanderlust, Shambhala, Photosynthesis, Beloved, and Earthdance, Desert Dwellers are utilizing 2012 to release three cutting edge remix albums that will feature some of the top dub producers on the planet, as well as work on a brand new original album and go on tour to many of the primary music festivals on the west coast and around the world.

Desert Dwellers was initially created out of a collaboration in the late 90's between electronic music pioneers Amani Friend & Treavor Moontribe (aka Amani vs Teapot). The group has their roots in the Southern California dance collective known as Moontribe, famous in the electronic underground for organizing dance rituals at magical locations deep within the vast expanses of Southern California and New Mexico deserts. Between 2005 and 2008 Desert Dwellers collaborated in the studio with Rara Avis (Six Degrees recording artist & YogiTunes founder) and Craig Kohland (Shaman's Dream Music) on three prominent albums called DownTemple Dub Waves, Flames and Roots; the result of this collaboration is some of the most cherished albums in the yoga and global psy-chill community. After many years and many albums of yoga inspired grooves, Desert Dwellers has been weaving it's electronic roots back into the mix into a modern tapestry of global psy-bass beats that are being widely appreciated on a larger level.

Desert Dwellers has been blessed to collaborate with an amazingly talented group of musicians over the years including Paul Livingstone, Sarah West, Michael Kott, Meagan Chandler, Domonic Dean Breaux, Yamuna Wali, and Ricardin, all incredible masters of their various musical traditions and transmissions. They have also worked closely in the studio with other producers like Rara Avis, Craig Kohland, Michael Stearns, Sattva Ananda, and Jonathan Grossman on various co-production projects. Their remixes can be found on albums by Adham Shaikh, Kalya Scintilla, Kaya Project, Karsh Kale, Deep Forest, David Starfire, Deya Dova, Girish, Donna DeLory, Deva Premal, Jai Uttal, and many other underground electronic artists.
